NEW YEAR OFF TO A CRACKING START

At 0055 on the 1st of January 2008, Montrose and Arbroath coastal rescue teams were paged and tasked along with Arbroath inshore and all weather boat to a male reported as fallen over a cliff east of Gaylet Pot.

Arbroath mobile was quickly on the scene and managed to ascertain that the male had slipped on rocks at the foot of the cliff and had broken his leg.

The male along with his two friends had been doing a spot of midnight fishing when the accident occurred. One male made his way back up the speed muddy cliff path to contact the coastguard and meet the teams on arrival.

Due to the current local weather condition it was not possible to use a rescue helicopter and was decided to remove the male by means of a stretcher and transfer him to the inshore lifeboat from Arbroath. He was then transferred to the all weather where he was taken back to Arbroath harbour to awaiting ambulance.

All teams returned to their stations and cleaned down and was on full readiness by 0330.
