NEW MANAGER ARRIVES IN SECTOR

The seas were rough and the winds were strong but with determination and a few cans of red dull he got here.

Ross Greenhill has been appointed Manger for the Montrose Sector.

Ross has relocated from the south coast of England and is looking forward to working back in his home area.

Ross was the sector manager from Eastbourne along the coast to Lee on Solent. This is a large area for one person to cover, particularly if a major incident occurs in one part of the patch and he is called to something else. His main job is to assess incidents, train the officers, offer advice on dealing with major SAR incidents, along with educating the public about the work of HMCG.

For one person, it was quite a tall order, which is why he has to be dedicated to his job. “I moved down to Sussex from Scotland to take this position and I absolutely love it – I wouldn’t and couldn’t do it if I didn’t love it. It’s very hard work. The hours are long and there’s a lot of driving involved, but there is nothing like it. I thrive on the unpredictability and ultimately, I know I am helping people in one way or another.”

All teams within the sector are looking forward to the introduction of the new cliff equipment. Ross being a fully qualified rescue technician will be rolling out the training over the next few months.

Although Montrose is a quieter sector compared to Solent, Ross is looking forward to bringing his experiences and applying it to his new surround as well as meeting members of the communities along the coast of his new sector.
