Duncan Gibb hadn't been outside in 30 years

Concern is growing for an agoraphobia sufferer who is missing after leaving his home in Montrose for the first time in 30 years.

An extensive search has been launched for 49-year-old Duncan Gibb after he walked into his back garden last Tuesday and then disappeared. Since then there has just one confirmed sighting of him.

Duncan's family are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare.

For the past 30 years Duncan has been a prisoner in his own home; trapped by agoraphobia and depression. His condition was sparked by a traumatic attack when he was a teenager - he was

assaulted and kicked in the head and since then has never stepped outside his front door until last week.

Since Duncan's disappearance an intensive search has been launched, coastguard teams have searched the area surrounding the Montrose basin and police have carried out door to door enquiries and are urging local residents to search their sheds and gardens.

Duncan’s family say it is unlikely he has gone far but their hope is fading that he will be found alive. Tonight they face another sleepless night desperately waiting for news.  All they can do is hope and remember the happy little boy and teenager they knew 30 years ago.

Posters have been distributed across the town in the hope they might jog someone's memory and shed some light on what happened to Duncan when he walked out of his home last week.
